PICTURE RESEARCHER.

This site is my portfolio, it consists of two parts. Picture research and Images and words.
The first is a collection of all the documentaries and multimedia projects I have worked on. Click on the images for more information and a trailer. They are in chronological order.
The second is a collection of my personal projects, stories and illustrations, some for others, most for myself. Click on the images for more information.

For as long as I can remember images have been an important part of my life, from the beautiful illustrations in some childrens books, to my moms paintings and to striking pictures illustrating news stories. The picture that struck me most, and still strucks me, is a photo by Frank Fournier of Omayra Sanchez, seconds before her death. In her eyes you feel her struggle, her strength, her horror, her grace. She is so incredibly beautiful. The picture will break your heart, over and over again.

Throughout the years I have worked with some very talented award winning people: Saskia Boddeke, Peter Greenaway, Pascale Lamché, Hans Pool, Andreas Johnsen, Marjoleine Boonstra, Ben Lewis and Nicolas Ghesquière.
“Without Willemien's thoroughness and creativity, the film about the Bellingcat collective would have never been as good as it ended up to be. The Emmy award that we won with it is also due to the fantastic visual materials that Willemien researched all over the world.” (Hans Pool, award winning director).
